Surgical Hair loss Treatment

The treatment procedure

The surgical treatment for hair transplant has been used for over 50 years now. With the passage of time, due to advancement in medical sciences it has evolved to an extent that now it is possible to give natural look to head through hair growth. Our expert surgeons will guide you about the surgical hair loss treatment options available according to the extent of your hair loss and its underlying causes. They will advise you about which treatment will suit best to your requirements. The two most common surgical treatment options are;

Micrografting or method of strip surgery

In hair transplant surgery, basically the hair is transplanted from healthy patches to the bald spots. The healthy hair after removal from their place is implanted on the bald spots, where they grow as the normal natural hair.

Hair transplant can be viewed as the re-arrangement of healthy hair into the bald areas of head. To understand the process, simply consider the areas of head into donor and recipient sections. In men, the donor area is generally what is referred to as the ‘horse–shoe’ pattern. This area goes along the sides and back of your head. Naturally growing hair are taken from this area and implanted into the bald area or recipient area.

The hair implanted through this hair loss treatment will act in the same manner as the hair in the natural donor area placement like on back and sides of head. However, it is also important to note that sometimes more than one surgery might be required to get the desired outcomes, which depends on the extent of baldness, its type, the progression of baldness, the texture of your hair and sometimes even colour of your hair.

FUE – Follicular Unit Extraction Method

FUE is one of the innovative and interesting method in which only few surgeons hold specialization. We are proud to have highly trained, experienced and specialized Hair Restoration Specialist particularly in this method and are also a member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery.

As compared to the strip surgery, FUE is a less invasive method of hair loss treatment. Because it can be done without a scalpel and there is no scarring. This treatment procedure is ideal for those men who want to keep their hair short. It offers the best results in cases of less advanced hair loss. This method is minimally invasive with a very little down time. Majority of the clients can undergo the hair loss treatment with local anesthesia and can return to their daily routine the very next day.

How FUE treatment is conducted?

FUE is technique of hair restoration in which the healthy hair follicles are extracted from those body areas where there is an abundance of hair. Those hair follicles are then implanted to the areas on the scalp where there is hair loss or hair thinning has taken place. These areas can include the back of the head, chest or even the back. It is not only a unique method but it can also be used for perfecting the Strip Surgery Method if there is an advanced stage hair loss.

The limitation of FUE method

There are some limitations of FUE method. Firstly, the donor area must be enough to meet the requirements of recipient area. Secondly, it might not be possible to extract the hair from any part of the body and implant it because the body hair might be different from the head hair, especially, if the hair are of Afro-Caribbean origin.

Is it a miracle Cure?

Do not expect any miracle from the surgical hair loss treatment but it can give the natural and good results you are looking for. However, you should develop realistic and practical expectations from your hair loss treatment sessions. It largely depends upon the quantity of hair available for transplantation and on the area where transplant is required. A combination of multiple sessions and a large number of follicular units or strands of hair ensure good results.

The Hair loss in men can take place at any age. There can be different causes for it. It can be a result of the increase scalp sensitivity to certain male hormones (androgens) and it is usually caused due to hereditary factors.

There are some scalp areas which show increased sensitivity to androgens as compared to other areas. This hormone cause shrinking of hair follicles so much so that it becomes so tiny that they are unable to replace the lost hair. Though the follicles remain alive but they lose their ability to replace the hair loss.

This condition usually starts in men aged around 20 to 30 and usually follows a typical pattern. The most commonly used classification for male hair loss is the Norwood classification. At least 98% of males with hair loss can be categorized by using the Norwood Classification, so it's definitely worth taking a look at:

Hair Loss Type

The loss of hair is not just restricted to men. The most common hair fall problem which is common among men is also common among women i.e. Androgenetic Alopecia. If we take it in simple terms, the sensitivity of the hair follicles and scalp to the male hormones is genetically inherited. This can be a reason for the hair thinning in the women, however receding hairline is quite rare in women.

Contrary to men, the loss of hair in women can begin after the age of 50 and above and it may be even without the existence of any hereditary link. The causes of hair loss in women can be attributed to many different factors such as pregnancy, illness etc.

Important Note: Some women with high hairlines may desire a lower hairline to complement their facial characteristics.

For women the Ludwig Classification of Female Baldness can help in classifying the different types of baldness.

Hair Loss Grade

The pictures clearly exhibit the differences before and after the hair loss treatment. In one picture there is no hair before the treatment but after the treatment there is natural looking hair. In other pictures hair are thin and there is partial baldness at some area on head which is recovered after the treatment.
