Diagonal lines that naturally appear on either side of the nose when squinting or scrunching are called 'bunny lines'. Many find these little lines cute and rather attractive, however, others dislike the 'look of disdain' they can convey. Furthermore, bunny lines may also be the telltale ‘Botox sign’ when arising due to compensatory movement after the frown area has been treated.
Bunny lines can be treated with small doses of botox on the lateral aspects of the nose. If you are having the frown area treated and appear prone to developing these lines our doctors may recommend also treating this area or reviewing your results at a top-up appointment where any adjustments can be made.
Indication: Small lines that occur either side and on the bridge of the nose, more obvious on ‘scrunching’ the nose.
Muscle Targeted: The nasalis muscle.
Muscle Action: The nasalis muscle pulls the nasal sidewalls together/medially when contracted. This can be demonstrated by asking patients to â??Crinkle your noseâ?.
Botox Bunny lines Treatment: Small doses of botulinum toxin are injected into the muscle on the sidewalls and on the dorsum of the nose.
Adjacent muscle movement: Horizontal lines on the nose are frequently associated with frowning and contraction of the procerus muscle. It is often recommended to treat the frown area whilst targeting bunny lines.
Individuals who have crow's feet relaxed with botulinum toxin may find that bunny lines become accentuated and it can be beneficial to also have this area treated.
