What is Botox

Botox is a medicine used to block nerve impulses to muscles, sweat glands, and pain receptors. Hence, it has a wide range of cosmetic and medical implications—muscle activity in the face results in lines and wrinkles. Botox helps to reduce the expression strength leading to fewer wrinkles.

Potential Botox areas on face and body

Botox areas may include face and body indications. From cosmetic wrinkles in the face or symptoms such as bruxism, migraine, headaches and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), botox has over 300 medical uses. Cover of Time magazine featured Botox in 2017.

Facial anti wrinkle injections

The three botox areas commonly requested for anti wrinkle injections are:

  • Frown
  • Forehead
  • Crow’s feet (eyes)

Other anti wrinkle injection areas in the face include bunny lines (over the nose), mentalis crease (the line between the chin and lips), and sad appearing mouth corners.

Botox works well for both men and women. The desired outcome is calculable, and “frozen celebrity appearances” are not typical outcomes.

How long does Botox last?

Botox may last 4-6 months on average. Initially, first-timers notice a shorter duration due to strong muscle activity and power. Subsequent botox injections last longer.

Baby Botox injection for a natural appearance

Baby botox, also known as ‘Microtox’, uses a careful, advanced technique of botox injections using micro-needles. A natural appearance without an ‘over-botoxed’ look is the desired result for most of our patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is Botox (UK)?

The average price for botox is between £250-£350 in the UK. In the US, Botox cost on dose in units rather than areas. Botox prices vary according to practitioner experience.

How long does botox does take to work?

Though the results may be visible in just a few days, Botox can take up to two weeks to work.

How long does Botox last for?

Botox wears off at approximately 20-25% a month. On average, patients repeat the procedure in 4-6 months. The benefit of botox can be seen after only one treatment.

Is Botox Safe?

Botox treatments performed by trained physicians are relatively safe. Common side effects of Botox injections are mild pain and swelling at the injection site for 10-20 minutes. Rare side effects include big bruises and nearby muscles being affected.

How often do you recommend having botox?

This depends on personal aesthetic preferences and goals. Individuals who are preventing lines would require it less frequently than ones reversing already set lines.

What can I not do after botox treatment?

Alcohol and exercise should be avoided on the day after your botox injection treatments.

Does Botox hurt?

We use the most miniature needles in the industry known as invisible needles to reduce discomfort to a minimum. Combined with the application of a numbing cream pain most individuals relate it to a mosquito bite.

Will movement be the same when the botox injection wears off?

As muscles regain their strength movement returns. Individuals will find that habitual expressions are reduced with repeated botox treatments.

Can You Stop Botox Once You Start?

There are no negative consequences of stopping botox injection treatments. Overtime, the muscles and lines will return to normal.

At What Age Should I Get Botox?

Botox is approved for patients who are 18 years and older. However, our experts suggest considering botox for preventing lines and wrinkles from the mid 20s onwards.

What’s the worst case scenario if something goes wrong?

Botox is a temporary drug. The side effects will subside over time as the drug wears off.

Will I look shiny?

A more natural appearance can be obtained by using lower doses of toxin such as baby botox injection. It is worth noting here that botox is frequently used to reduce excessive sweating. Hence, shiny foreheads after botox are rarely due to perspiration.

I’d like to have botox to prevent wrinkles, is this possible?

Botox injections work well on ‘dynamic’ lines; wrinkles that occur when muscles are contracted. By the late 20s most individuals have lines at rest. Then the procedure is no longer for prevention but reversal of lines.

What’s better, botox or fillers?

In general, botox is the preferred option for wrinkles formed primarily by active muscle movement. For deeper lines and areas of volume loss, dermal fillers are usually recommended. Our practitioner will examine and recommend you in detail the cause of your lines and a suitable treatment plan.

How Many Procedure Does Your London Botox Clinic Perform?

Cosmedocs London botox clinic is a very busy practice since 2007. We have performed over 50,000 botox injection treatments. It is also a recognised training institute for teaching botox treatments.

Can it be reversed?

There is no antidote to botox. However, botox does only have temporary effects lasting a few months and unwanted side effects will wear off. Most practitioners take a cautious approach to avoid any complications as additional botox is easy to add if required.
