Plastic surgery in London under local anaesthetic
Not every surgical problem needs an operating theatre and a general anaesthetic. A significant proportion of the plastic surgery people seek in London — hooded upper eyelids, a cyst on the scalp, a lipoma on the back, a mole that catches on clothing — can be treated safely in a clinic room under local anaesthetic. You are awake, comfortable, and you walk out the same day. That is the whole scope of this service: consultant-led minor plastic surgery, done properly, in a CQC-registered setting on Harley Street.
Upper eyelid surgery (upper blepharoplasty)
Upper eyelid surgery removes the excess skin, and where necessary a small strip of muscle and fat, that gathers over the eyelid crease with age. The incision sits inside the natural crease, so once healed the scar is hidden when the eye is open. It takes around 45 to 60 minutes under local anaesthetic. Sutures come out at five to seven days, bruising settles across two weeks, and the final result — an open, rested eye rather than a changed one — reveals itself over six to eight weeks. Where the heaviness is caused by brow descent rather than eyelid skin, we will tell you that, and discuss non-surgical brow support instead of operating on the wrong structure.
Removal of lumps, bumps, cysts and lipomas
Sebaceous and epidermoid cysts, lipomas, skin tags, benign moles and other soft-tissue lumps are excised under local anaesthetic with a technique chosen to keep the scar as quiet as possible — minimal-incision extraction for lipomas, complete capsule removal for cysts so they do not recur. Anything with atypical features is sent for histopathology as a matter of routine, and we will refer onward if a lesion needs specialist dermatological or oncological care. Diagnosis comes before removal, always.
Why a local anaesthetic pathway is often the better one
Avoiding a general anaesthetic removes an entire category of risk — airway, nausea, post-anaesthetic fatigue — and it shortens recovery from weeks to days. It is also markedly less expensive, because there is no anaesthetist, no theatre time and no overnight stay to fund. The trade-off is scope: local anaesthetic surgery suits focused, well-defined problems. Larger reconstructive and body-contouring surgery belongs in a hospital, and if that is what your case needs we will say so at consultation rather than stretch a clinic procedure to fit.
Your consultation
Every surgical pathway begins with an examination and an honest conversation: what is actually causing the concern, what surgery can and cannot change, the scar you will live with, and the realistic timeline. Written information and a costed plan follow, and there is a cooling-off period before any date is booked. Our aesthetics is invisible art — bold, natural, always your way — and in surgery that means the result should read as you, rested, not as a procedure.
