    Focused neck anatomy

Platysmal bands are the visible cords. The plan is selected fibre control.

The platysma is a thin sheet of muscle across the neck. In some patients it contracts in strong vertical bands, making the neck look tense or corded even when the rest of the face is relaxed.

Platysmal band treatment is more focused than a full Nefertiti Lift. The priority is the neck band pattern itself: which cords are active, which are safe to treat and which visible changes are actually skin or structure rather than muscle.

    Strong bands

Selected active fibres can be softened when the anatomy is suitable.

    Honest limits

Loose skin, fullness under the chin and deeper ageing changes need a different plan.

    Related but not identical

Platysmal bands versus the Nefertiti Lift

The two treatments overlap because both involve the platysma, but their treatment maps are not the same.

    Platysmal bands

    • Primarily focused on vertical neck cords
    • Treatment follows the active band pattern
    • Best when muscle pull is the main concern

    Nefertiti Lift

    • Can include jawline border injections
    • May include DAO, chin Botox and mentalis balance
    • Broader lower-face and neck contouring plan
    Read the Nefertiti Lift page

    Safety and aftercare

The neck rewards precision, not excess.

Most people return to normal daily activity after treatment. Temporary marks or bruising can occur. Your doctor will explain aftercare and the uncommon but important risks, including unintended neck weakness, smile asymmetry or swallowing difficulty.

The safest result comes from treating the correct fibres conservatively and leaving untreated what should not be treated.

The consultation confirms whether your neck bands are mainly muscular and whether direct platysmal band treatment, Nefertiti Lift planning or another route is more appropriate.

    Platysmal bands FAQ

These answers stay present in the page for patients and search engines, even when a panel is closed.

Platysmal bands are vertical cords that appear in the neck when the platysma muscle contracts strongly. They can be dynamic, meaning they become more visible with expression or movement, and they need assessment before treatment is planned.
Platysmal band treatment focuses mainly on the visible vertical neck bands. A Nefertiti Lift is broader: it can include injections along the jawline border and selected lower-face points such as DAO, chin Botox and mentalis activity where clinically appropriate.
It may help when the jawline is being pulled down by active platysma fibres, but it is not a replacement for volume restoration, skin tightening or surgery where those are the true causes of the concern.
Results commonly last around three to four months. Muscle strength, band pattern and the dose used all affect how long the softening lasts.
The effect develops gradually over several days and is usually reviewed at around two weeks, when the neck movement and band softening can be assessed properly.
Strong bands can often be assessed for treatment, but restraint matters. The aim is controlled softening of selected active fibres, not freezing the whole neck or treating every visible line.
Temporary tenderness, redness or bruising can occur. Less common but important risks include neck weakness, smile asymmetry or swallowing difficulty if toxin affects an unintended muscle, so this area should be treated by an appropriately qualified medical practitioner.

A precise assessment of neck bands, jawline pull and lower-face balance.

We will tell you whether direct platysmal band treatment is enough, whether the broader Nefertiti Lift is better, or whether the concern is not muscle-led.
